Ashtanga Yoga Technique Workshop: Surya Namaskara

Saturday, April 13, 2019 at 9 AM – 11 AM

In Hinduism and in many other ancient religions the Sun is seen as the light of all life, an image of the Divine and the spiritual heart of our world. Ancient yogis teach us that the sun is a visible representation of the Self or spirit. We are all rays of the Sun, the One Sun.

In today's world with all the chaos and madness we often experience a sense of being separate not only from each other but also within ourselves. In this workshop we will look specifically at correct technique and safe alignment in each of the elements that make up the Sun Salutatio
ns. By applying these techniques we will experience a greater sense of flow and harmony in our Surya Namaskara and within ourselves which in turn fosters harmonious relationships with others.

This workshop will consist of meditation, intention setting, exploring Yoga technique applied specifically to Surya Namaskara, dynamic yoga practice, core drills to strengthen our centre for a stable practice, working in pairs and a generous relaxation.

This workshop is suitable for anyone who has been attending Ashtanga yoga classes from beginners to experienced.

Investment in your Well Being is £18

Yorkshire Yoga Weekend: 11-13th November 2016 (Now full)

PLUS: Yorkshire Yoga Weekend 2! 18-20th November, 2016. Same as below but probably a gentler focus for yoga postures and a more therapeutic approach – I.e. How yoga can make a difference specifically in your body/mind/life. Also more suitable for the less mobile and sprightly!

What Jen has to say about the retreat.

I LOVE Yorkshire, and being on the road I miss it terribly. So although I usually teach and practice yoga in terribly glamourous, exotic locations, I am delighted to be coming home to host and teach in the North, finally!! Come and join us for a weekend of nourishing yoga, food and company.

The Venue: This magical place – all cosy and homely with views to die for.

What happens on retreat?

Finding your yoga is an ever-evolving journey. What works for you now, may not work for you in the future; you may have tried several types in the past and not found your perfect style or your favourite teacher. Like all forms of self-enquiry, you just have to keep asking until you find an answer that resonates with you.

On retreat you will have the chance to talk about yourself and your situation and what you hope to gain from yoga and what you would like more of/less of in your life. I can help to give you guidance about which direction might most benefit you. It may be a physical asana practice, a meditation practice, a book recommendation or just a film we watch together. Hopefully something that you experience on retreat will help you to connect with yourself and the world around you and to make positive changes toward a life with less suffering.

Food and nourishment.

Every individual has their own likes, dislikes, constitution, dosha, intolerances, allergies and a whole minefield of other food factors to consider. We provide a sattvic, yogic diet which is ethically sourced and lovingly prepared. It is vegetarian, with many vegan options, based on juices and smoothies, salads, soups, cooked stews and whole grains. Meal times are designed for optimum digestion.
